About this design
This pattern is adapted from Mandarin Ducks and Flowering Plants by Utagawa Hiroshige (Japanese, 1797–1858), early or mid-1830s (color woodblock print). It is in the collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art, which releases the image under CC0 (public domain). The museum notes: "In Asian painting, ducks are usually shown in pairs because a male and female mate for life."
The chart uses 19 DMC colours and 4,700 full cross stitches; the background is left unstitched so the fabric shows through. On 14-count Aida it measures 15.2 x 25.6 cm (6.0 x 10.1 in).
