About this design
This pattern is adapted from The Roses: Rosa Gallica Purpurea Velutina Parva by Langlois (French), Pierre-Joseph Redouté (French, 1759–1840) and Henri Joseph Redouté (French, 1766–1853), 1817–24 (color stipple engraving with watercolor added by hand). It is in the collection of The Cleveland Museum of Art, which releases the image under CC0 (public domain). The museum notes: "The subtle tones in Redouté’s paintings nearby were faithfully captured by engravers, but the prints do not imitate the spontaneity and deftness of the master’s brushwork, which carefully described every detail."
The chart uses 13 DMC colours and 4,246 full cross stitches; the background is left unstitched so the fabric shows through. On 14-count Aida it measures 18.1 x 24.7 cm (7.1 x 9.7 in).
